This eight-day journey combines Bhutan’s cultural heritage with its beautiful mountain landscapes and traditional way of life. Beginning in Paro, travel to Thimphu and Punakha to discover some of Bhutan’s most important cultural landmarks before continuing to the peaceful Haa Valley. In Haa, experience a more intimate side of Bhutan through a scenic hike, a homestay, and a hot stone bath. The journey returns to Paro for the hike to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest), before concluding with a traditional farmhouse experience.

Arrive Paro – Thimphu · Overnight: Thimphu |
Approx. distance: 50 km · Journey: 1½–2 hours · Thimphu: approx. 2,300 m
Your flight into Bhutan offers spectacular views of the Himalayan mountain ranges. On arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be welcomed by your tour representative and begin your journey to Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital. The drive follows the Pa Chhu and Wang Chhu rivers, passing through picturesque villages and rice terraces.
Afternoon: Visit Kuenselphodrang, home to the impressive Buddha Dordenma statue overlooking the Thimphu valley, and the Memorial Chorten, an important place of daily worship for local people.
Evening: Take a leisurely stroll through Thimphu town and experience the atmosphere of Bhutan’s unique capital.

Explore Thimphu · Overnight: Thimphu |
Morning: Visit Tashichho Dzong, the impressive fortress-monastery that houses important government offices and the King’s Throne Room. It is also the summer residence of the Je Khenpo and the Central Monastic Body.
Continue to: The Institute of Zorig Chusum, where students are trained in Bhutan’s thirteen traditional arts and crafts, and the National Library, home to an important collection of Buddhist manuscripts and texts.
Time Permitting: Visit the Motithang Takin Preserve, home to Bhutan’s national animal, or the Jungshi Handmade Paper Factory, where traditional paper is produced using age-old techniques.

Thimphu – Punakha · Overnight: Punakha |
Approx. distance: 75 km · Journey: 3–4 hours, including sightseeing · Dochula Pass: approx. 3,100 m
After breakfast, drive towards Punakha over Dochula Pass. On a clear day, the pass offers spectacular views of the Himalayan mountain ranges. Visit the Druk Wangyel Chortens, a collection of 108 stupas at the pass. Continue downhill through forests and warmer valleys towards Punakha.
En Route: Visit Chimi Lhakhang, a picturesque temple dedicated to Lama Drukpa Kuenley, popularly known as the Divine Madman, traditionally associated with fertility and blessings for parenthood.
Afternoon: Visit magnificent Punakha Dzong, situated at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers — one of Bhutan’s most impressive architectural landmarks. Later, visit the Punakha Suspension Bridge, one of the longest in Bhutan.

Punakha – Haa · Overnight: Haa – Homestay |
Approx. distance: 150–160 km · Journey: 5–6 hours
After breakfast, begin the scenic journey westwards towards the Haa Valley, travelling through changing mountain landscapes and traditional villages. Haa is one of Bhutan’s least-visited valleys and retains a peaceful, traditional character, surrounded by forested mountains and open farmland.
On Arrival: Visit Lhakhang Karpo (White Temple) and Lhakhang Nagpo (Black Temple), two important temples associated with the valley’s spiritual heritage.
Evening: Settle into a traditional Bhutanese homestay. Enjoy a home-cooked dinner and spend time with your host family, gaining insight into rural life and hospitality.

Experience Haa Valley · Overnight: Haa – Homestay |
Option 1: Haa Panorama Hike — an approximately 11-km trail taking around five hours, passing through pine forests with bird’s-eye views of the valley and several sacred sites (approx. 3,150 m).
Option 2: Red Panda Trail — for nature enthusiasts, an alternative forest walk through the habitat of the elusive red panda. Sightings cannot be guaranteed.
Afternoon: Return to the homestay and learn to prepare hoentey, a traditional buckwheat dumpling associated with Haa, together with your host family.
Evening: Experience a traditional medicinal hot stone bath — heated river stones placed in a wooden tub of herb-infused water, for a soothing Bhutanese wellness ritual.

Haa – Paro · Overnight: Paro |
Approx. distance: 65–70 km · Journey: 3–4 hours · Chele La: approx. 3,988 m
After breakfast, bid farewell to your host family and drive to Paro via Chele La Pass, one of Bhutan’s highest motorable mountain passes. On a clear day, enjoy spectacular views of Mount Jomolhari and Jichu Drake before descending through forest towards the Paro valley.
On Arrival: Visit Rinpung Dzong, one of Bhutan’s finest examples of traditional architecture, and cross the traditional wooden cantilever bridge nearby.

Paro – Taktsang Monastery · Overnight: Paro |
Hike: approximately 4–6 hours round trip
After breakfast, drive to Ramthangkha, the trailhead for the hike to Taktsang Monastery, popularly known as Tiger’s Nest. The uphill hike takes approximately 2–3 hours. Perched dramatically on a cliff high above the Paro valley, Taktsang is Bhutan’s most sacred monastery and most iconic landmark, where Guru Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche) is said to have meditated in the 8th century.
Evening: Visit a traditional Bhutanese farmhouse for a home-cooked dinner and, if desired, try your hand at traditional archery or learn about everyday village life.

Paro – Departure |
After breakfast, drive to Paro International Airport for your onward flight. Your tour representative will accompany you to the airport and bid you farewell as you depart Bhutan, taking with you memories of its landscapes, culture and warm hospitality.
